Dealing With Stress On The Job – Simple Techniques
Whether it is trouble with your boss or that annoying guy in the copy room, the office is full of stressful situations. If you’re feeling stress on the job, don’t be too worried – you’re not the only one who feels this way often. There are some basic techniques that you can utilize to calm yourself down, you won’t even have to leave the room.
The best way to help avoid stress on the job is to take five or six minutes before work to relax and prepare to let everything go before you step into the office. If there are people at work that bother you or push your buttons, think about how you will focus on your work and not on them. If you are having trouble at home, prepare yourself to leave those worries at home. After all, there is nothing you can do about problems at home while you are at work, so don’t let them get to you.
When you are starting to feel a bit stressed out you should start focusing on your breathing. Separate your mind from what you are doing for a little while and just think about breathing in and breathing out.
In fact, Yoga teaches breathing techniques that you can use in your office chair – breathe in through your mouth while counting to four (just count slowly in your head) and then breathe out of your nose for four counts. Then breathe in through your mouth for while counting to four and out of your nose for six counts. Then increase your exhale to eight and even up to ten if you feel like it. This will work to slow your heart beat and cool you down a bit.
Also, try to let things bounce right off of you at work. Don’t let people walk all over you, but try to be the person that brushes things off and doesn’t take things personally. These tips should help you avoid stress on the job if you follow them well.
