There have recently been a slew of medical studies that reveal how the memory loss elderly people experience can be battled. You can even help it get better after you have started experiencing it. There are several vitamins and minerals that have been tested specifically on the elderly that are showing some amazing promise.

The first mineral that you may not have expected to improve memory loss is magnesium. The January 28, 2010 issue of Neuron revealed that a study had been conducted that showed an increase in magnesium intake is related to an increase in the strength of the hippocampus – a part of the brain that plays a major role in long term memory. This strength comes from the fact the magnesium helps to promote the creation of healthy synapses inside of the brain.

Another way that the memory loss elderly people experienced can be treated is with Vitamin E. There has been an estimation that Vitamin E is linked with memory in some way for decades. Then, in the last year or so, several researchers around the world have discovered that a lack of Vitamin E is highly correlated with poor memory in the elderly. So, you should be taking some kind of multi-vitamin that contains Vitamin E.

Your multi-vitamin should also have a healthy does Vitamin B as well. There are several different kinds of Vitamin B that have been shown to increase the flow of oxygen to the brain. If your brain is provided with more oxygen, then almost all of it’s processes will run more smoothly – including memory functions.

Memory loss – elderly people need to seriously think about how they can battle this natural degeneration of the mind. If you have found that you are forgetting names and important dates, then it may be about time for you to start trying some of these methods.
