Tips For Improving Memory – 3 Things You Can Do Right Away! February 3, 2010
Our brain is similar to a muscle; we have to exercise it to keep it strong. We also have to protect it from disease and injury to make sure it stays in proper working order. While advancing years can lead to a decline in the sharpness of your memory, here are three tips for improving memory.
Eat Right
A healthy diet is necessary for a good memory and preventing future conditions. What we eat can determine how strong our hearts, circulatory system, immune system and nervous systems are. You can include foods that are rich in antioxidants, B vitamins and folic acid. Antioxidants ensure oxygen rich blood flows to your brain, and B vitamins are important to hydration and the formation of blood. Folic acid can even repair your DNA. Antioxidants are found in fresh fruits and vegetables, B vitamins and folic acid in meats and cereals.
Play Games
That’s right – of all the tips for improving memory, this may be the most fun! Logic puzzles and crosswords are great ways to mentally work out. You can also make up games wherever you are. For instance, take a book and point to the tenth and eleventh words on page ten. Now make a list of anagrams.
Right handed? Try using your left hand for daily tasks like showering or brushing your teeth. You could also try using your left hand on the mouse to read through this article.
Repeat, Repeat, Repeat
Repetition is key to transferring memories from short term memory to long term memory. If there is a new procedure at work, write it down then repeat it aloud. This is a great way to remember directions and appointments as well.
You can incorporate these three tips for improving memory right away. Eating healthy and working out is key to brain power in general, and by playing mental games and repeating things you can start empowering your mind right away.
