In the busy world that we live in, it is all too easy to become bogged down with stress. Not only can stress make you feel tired and hopeless, but it can have some very real negative effects on your life. It can cause you to miss important deadlines or forget about important events. Let me tell you a few ways that you can calm down and let you decide which one is the best stress management technique.

The first stress management technique that you may want to use it to simply find the route of the problem. Many people go about their day stressed out for a number of reasons. But it is likely that there is one main thing that is really dragging you down. It can be hard to recognize what the real problem is when it causes so many other problems that get mixed up with it. Just sit for a good five minutes and try to figure it out very calmly by yourself. You might even want to jot down some thoughts.

This brings us to the second stress management technique – keeping a journal. If you are feeling like the weight of the world is falling onto your shoulders, a great way to vent is to write down your thoughts. No, it doesn’t have to be a frilly pink journal like you may have had when you were a child. Just write down your thoughts about the day in a notebook. It can be very informal.

You could also try breathing exercises. Every night before you go to bed, try to breathe in deeply while counting to four in your head. Then breathe out while counting to four. Then increase the breath in to six and breathe out for four. Then breathe in for eight and breathe out for four. This technique will lower your heart rate and raise serotonin levels. Both of these effects will naturally make you feel better.

There are many stress management techniques to choose from. Try a little of each and find the one that works best for you.
